COVID-19 - Flinders Mobile Library Service Update

Following a recent announcement from the Federal Government, the Flinders Mobile Library will be back on the road from the 18th of May. To do this as safely as possible, there will be some changes made to the way in which the service is delivered.

So what will this look like for library users?

To maintain social distancing within the Flinders Mobile Library truck, there can be no access to the library truck for any of our customers at this current level of restrictions. We will be offering a “call and collect” style service only. The wheelchair lifter will be kept in an elevated position, allowing staff to walk out onto the platform from inside the truck to serve our customers.

Borrowers will be able to collect their holds and request extra items from the shelves of the truck, but they will not be able to enter the truck and browse the collection themselves; it will be up to staff to select items on their behalf.

Items which have been returned by borrowers will be quarantined for a three (3) day period before they can be returned. This is to ensure a minimal risk of transfer from one person to another (meaning a book cannot be returned and then re-borrowed on the same day by a different person). This will mean a slight delay in items being removed from your library account.

All library staff will continue with thorough hygiene practices throughout the day, including an extensive wipe down of the inside of the library truck and the cab at the end of each day.

The ability to place holds has been reactivated, so people are very welcome to start getting hold requests in straight away.

For those who haven’t tried ordering your own items before, we would encourage you to have a go! You can do this one of two ways. Either via our website at or by downloading the Libraries SA app from your relevant app store for iOS or Android devices. You will need your library card number and a PIN to login, please contact the library directly if you don’t know what your PIN is.

Of course, the digital library is still completely FREE and open 24/7! Please visit to discover what is available to you online with access via your library card. There are ebooks, eAudio books, eMagazines and much more!

Please keep in mind that circumstances surrounding the easing of COVID-19 restrictions may change, and our plans may need to change at any time. However we will do our utmost to keep you up to date with any changes regarding the delivery of our services.

Please contact the library directly at or 8662 2305 for more information.
