Why are we delivering the Green Organic Bins now?

With so many bins to deliver - and the holiday season upon us - we had to start green bin delivery early. Please hold off on filling the bins until the Feb start date. We have plenty of communications to come in the next couple of weeks.

Anything that grows in your garden can go in your green bin – that includes flowers, weeds, lawn clippings, leaves, sticks, small logs, bark, and more. As the saying goes – if it grows, it goes!

When you put garden organics into your green bin, they’re taken to a commercial composting facility to be processed and made into valuable compost, soil and mulch products, which are then used on South Australian farms and vineyards, and in household gardens as well.

What goes in the Green Bin?

Delivery roll out of Bins to townships:

Jamestown & Gladstone - 2, 3 & 4  of December 2024

Laura  - 5 & 6 December 2024

Spalding, Yacka,  Georgetown,  Gulnare and Stone Hut - 10 & 11 December 2024

Do not use the Bins yet - No collection will occur until February

Collection service will be on a Monthly cycle.

12  February 2025 - Caltowie, Jamestown and Spalding

13 February 2025 -Georgetown, Gladstone, Gulnare, Laura, Yacka & Stonehut

What is the Cost Q & A !

Why have we already paid before the service starts?

Rates notices – including service charges – are issued from 1 July each year and the charges for that year must be included. The service charge for the bins had to be included – but the costs cover only the February to June period. You are not being charged for the full year, just for when the service is up and running.

If the service doesn’t start to February are we getting a refund?

The charge is for February to June only – i.e. when your service is up and running.

How much has the green bin cost us?

The full charge for the green waste collection in the 2024/25 year – which covers just the months February to June – is $59 and this includes the bin.

What is the cost next year?

Each year Council determines rates and service charges applicable for the relevant financial year. Council’s budget discussions will begin in around March/April 2025 and the charges will be adopted usually in June.
