Bute Street Intersection with RM Williams Way

Published 15th October 2026

Council is upgrading the intersection of Bute Street and RM Williams Way (Spalding Road) to improve safety and better accommodate heavy vehicle movements.

Funding for the project has been secured through the Special Local Roads Program (SLRP), with Council contributing the remaining project costs. Engineering design has been completed and construction contracts have been awarded.

Construction Works

Construction is scheduled to commence on Monday, 19 October 2026 and is expected to continue until mid-December 2026.

Traffic Impacts

Road users should expect changed traffic conditions throughout the construction period, including road closures, detours, reduced speed limits and traffic management measures.

The Bute Street and the Heavy Vehicle route will be closed.

Heavy vehicles will be detoured via:

  • RM Williams Way → Fishers Trough Road → Williams Road → Glasson Road → Wilkins Highway

Detour routes and traffic management arrangements will be clearly signposted. Motorists are reminded to follow all traffic management signage, temporary speed restrictions and directions from traffic controllers.

Please allow extra travel time and take care when travelling through or around the work area.

Council thanks the community for its patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out. The completed upgrade will deliver a safer and more efficient intersection for all road users.
