Drop Dust Before You Hit the Seal

Published 9th September 2026

As harvest approaches, Northern Areas Council is encouraging farmers, truck drivers and contractors to help keep our townships safe and enjoyable by remembering to Drop the Dust Before You Hit the Seal.

Thousands of tonnes of grain will be transported across our region during harvest, with many vehicles travelling through local townships and on their way to grain receival sites including Gladstone and Jamestown.

While harvest is a vital part of our local economy, excessive dust entering towns can affect residents, businesses and visitors. Dust can reduce visibility, impact air quality and create additional cleaning and maintenance for homes and shopfronts.

Council is asking all drivers to slow down and take practical steps to minimise dust generation when approaching and travelling through townships.

By dropping the dust before hitting the seal and entering town, drivers can help:

  • Protect local residents and businesses.
  • Improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Maintain the amenity and appearance of our communities.
  • Show respect for the towns that support our agricultural industry.

A cleaner, safer harvest season benefits everyone.

Remember: Drop the Dust Before You Hit the Seal.
