Bute Street Intersection with RM Williams Way

Council plans to upgrade the intersection of Bute Street and RM Williams Way (Spalding Road), which poses a safety risk to road users. The upgrade will ensure the intersection complies with current regulations and safely accommodates heavy vehicle movements (PBS Level 2B – left in, right out).

What’s Happening Now?

Grant funding has been secured through the Special Local Roads Program (SLRP) to cover two-thirds of the project cost, with engineering design completed and construction tenders awarded. Work is planned to commence on Monday, 19 October 2026 and continue until mid December 2026.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, the Bute Street heavy vehicle detour route will be closed.

All heavy vehicles will be required to detour via:

  • RM Williams Way → Fishers Trough Road → Williams Road → Glasson Road → Wilkins Highway

Detour routes will be clearly signposted, and motorists are reminded to follow all traffic management signage and allow extra travel time while works are underway.

Council thanks the community for its patience and cooperation during these works, which will deliver a safer and more efficient intersection for all road users.
