The Committee Toolkit: Governance Made Practical

Published 2nd September 2026

Northern Areas Council is pleased to offer a series of free governance workshops designed to help local community groups, sporting clubs and volunteer committees build the skills they need to thrive.

Good governance is more than paperwork. It helps community groups make better decisions, reduce volunteer burnout, secure funding opportunities and remain sustainable for years to come.

Facilitated by Dr Kristine Peters, these practical workshops will provide valuable tools and real-world solutions for committee members at all levels of experience. Dr Kristine Peters has worked with hundreds of community groups across Australia, helping organisations strengthen their governance practices and build confidence in committee roles.

Workshop Topics

Participants will explore:

  • Committee roles and responsibilities
  • Risk management and compliance
  • Running effective meetings
  • Succession planning
  • Practical solutions to common committee challenges

These sessions are ideal for current committee members, volunteers, office bearers and anyone considering taking on a leadership role within a community organisation.
