Northern Areas Council has elected Cr. Keith Pluckrose as Mayor for the remainder of the current term.
The decision, made at last night’s Council meeting, concludes the term of outgoing Mayor Sue Scarman. A resolution was passed by Council to thank Cr. Scarman for her service as Mayor.
Council remains focused on delivering the priorities outlined in our Strategic Plan while continuing business as usual—serving the people and communities of the Northern Areas, meeting our statutory responsibilities, and implementing decisions that support long-term sustainability and growth.
Looking ahead, in accordance with changes in legislation the 2026 Local Government elections will introduce a new process for the Northern Areas Council. The Mayor will be elected directly by the community, and the current ward structure will be removed as approved by Council following its Elector Representation Review.
