The Northern Areas Council is in the process of installing dozens of Automatic External Defibrillators across its public buildings in accordance with new South Australian Government legislation which is due to commence from 1 January 2026.
The Council was fortunate enough to receive $20,000 in funding assistance through the South Australian Government’s Automated External Defibrillator Grants Program to assist with the rollout.
Mayor Sue Scarman said:
“this is a very good outcome for the communities across the Council area, as we know defibrillators save lives. Many members of our local towns aren’t as young as they used to be and thankfully in the event of an emergency there will be a little more help available than there once was. As a Council that covers eleven towns, we have a number of public buildings, which are required to have defibrillators under the new legislation, which comes at a significant cost. We’ve been fortunate in that we’ve been able to secure some funding support from the State Government which has been a co-contribution toward the purchase and install across the Council area”.
