Proposed Renaming of Col Smarts Road, Narridy

The Northern Areas Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to rename Col Smarts Road, Narridy to Nantoura Road.

At its meeting on 21 July 2026, Council considered a request to change the road name and resolved to commence the road naming process in accordance with relevant legislative and policy requirements. As part of this process, Council is undertaking public consultation and inviting feedback from residents, landowners and other interested parties.

Why is the change proposed?

The proposed name Nantoura Road has been suggested because Nantoura is the original farm name located at the end of the road. The name has strong local historical significance and is unique within the Northern Areas Council area.

The proposal also maintains the area's connection to the Smart family, as Col Smart was the original owner of the Nantoura property.

In addition, the change would help eliminate confusion caused by a similar road name elsewhere and reduce the risk of misdirection for emergency services, deliveries and contractors.

Have Your Say

Council welcomes comments, concerns, objections or support regarding the proposed road name change.

All submissions received during the consultation period will be considered before a further report is presented to Council for consideration.

Submissions close: Monday, 19 October 2026
