Stormwater Management Plans for Laura, Gladstone, Georgetown and Spalding

Northern Areas Council, with joint funding from the Stormwater Management Authority, are preparing Stormwater Management Plans (SMPs) for the towns of Laura, Gladstone, Georgetown and Spalding in partnership with a consultant team led by Southfront.

The SMPs will provide greater clarity to the extent of stormwater management related issues in each of the towns. The SMPs will guide Council’s decision making processes to better manage flood risk, water quality, stormwater detention/retention, water re-use and development in the towns.

Goals for the Stormwater Management Plans include:

  1. Identify flood prone areas and opportunities to reduce flooding, taking into consideration the management of stormwater infrastructure and the projected impacts of climate change.
  2. Improve the water quality of stormwater discharging into the receiving waters.

  4. Protect and enhance water dependent ecosystems.
  5. Provide principles and policies to inform future decision making regarding stormwater management
